The Slim Fit Pants are classic casual style pants for boys or girls; slim and neat fitting in the hip and legs with elastic in the back waist, a front zip fly and standard jeans pockets on back and front. The pattern includes a knee length shorts option. Sizes: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 to fit children 2 to 12 years old. Always check the size chart for your correct size, waist and height measurements are the best guide. A size chart in centimetres and inches is included in the pattern. Fabrics: Medium weight woven fabrics are the most suitable — linen, cotton drill, denim, corduroy, wool and similar fabrics. Stretch denim and drill are ideal for these pants. Choose fabrics that are not too thick. I used a cotton drill and a medium/light weight washed denim. Always wash the cloth before you cut out to avoid excessive shrinkage later. See the fabric chart below for the fabric requirements. Experience: you will need to have advanced beginner to intermediate sewing skills to make the pants. Neat and accurate seaming is essential; one buttonhole is required and a zipper fly placket. A zipper foot attachment is necessary to sew in the zip. Overlocking is best to finish the seams; alternately use the zigzag stitch on your plain machine. Follow the sewing tutorial closely to be sure to sew everything in the correct sequence.
