Also great for gifts, as it is a very quick project! This pattern is written with a lot of details and pictures, it even includes instructions for felting. My goal was to make it available to all types of knitters. Sizes included in instructions: S (5/6), M (7/8), L (9/10). If you would like smaller or larger this would not be hard to do to- the pattern is very simplistic with size changes.Skills needed: Knit Purl Increase(make 1) Decrease(knit 2 together, purl 2 together)Notions Needed: Darning Needle Tapestry Needle Pillow case(recommended for felting) 2 matching buttons**Although a top-loader washing machine is recommended, the pattern has been tried in a European Front-Loader(lower agitation, can’t always control the whole cycle). PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A PDF KNITTING PATTERN. IT IS NOT THE KNITTED ITEM. THIS IS NOT THE KNITTED ITEM. THIS IS A PATTERN TO KNIT THE HAT. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. Pattern written in English only. This pattern includes instructions for knitting and felting two different derby styles and a felted flower as shown in the pics. The first pattern is a standard derby with a short brim shown in multi-color. The second pattern has a wider and slightly rounded brim as shown in cream. Both hats can be knitted in solids or variegated yarns and both are perfect for wearing plain or with flowers, ribbons and other decorations. Information on felting and recommendations for yarns are included. Please read through this pattern to become familiar with the pattern, types of yarn, and the felting process. The Notes and Felting Sections have information that is important to successfully knitting and felting hats. Materials: U. S. Size 11 24-inch circular needles and dpns 1 stitch marker Approximately 440 yards worsted weight for hat. Approximately 50 yards for flower Purchase yarn that is felt-able. Do not use super wash or washable wool. For this specific pattern, I recommend 100% wool and not a wool combination. When you knit your hat, you will hold two strands of yarn together. Optional – Hat Shaper from Hatshapers.com or other form to shape your hat. I like the Medium Plus Plus or Large size Flower: U.S. Size 10 needles Approximately 30 – 50 yards of #4 worsted weigh. Use 100% wool appropriate for felting. Do not use washable wool. Measurements: The hat is knitted in one size fits many teens/adults. The drying form that you use will determine the finished size of your hat. Gauge: Purchase a yarn that gives a gauge on the wrapper of approximately 20 stitches and 26 rows to a 4 inch by 4 inch gauge when knitted with U.S. Size 7 needles. Your unfelted gauge with double strand on U.S. Size 11 should approximate 12-14 stitches to 4 inches. Since the hat will be felted to size, an approximation will work. If you would like this hat custom knit for you, just send me a convo.
