Irish Aran knitting patterns have a long and rich history, originating in the Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland. Most commonly seen in sweaters, I have replicated those patterns here in blanket form. The staghorn cable is a common design in Aran sweaters, and is meant to denote strength. The Super Chunky Staghorn Cable Blanket is a repeating pattern of staghorn cable ‘stripes’ with a larger double-Staghorn centre motif. SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate. SUGGESTED MATERIALS: 9 balls of Lion Brand Off-The-Hook Yarn (3.5 oz/100g (Image shown is the colour ‘Beach Sand’). SUGGESTED TOOLS: No needles required (finger knitting). Scissors. FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Approx. 43” by 51” (109 cm by 129.5 cm). PLEASE NOTE: This pattern will work with any brand of loop yarn, but keep in mind that the size of the loops, and size of the balls/skeins of each brand is different.
