Algebra

My Algebra 2 students do really well with visual references and reminders. We have math word walls all over our classroom and I give them math cheat sheets for every unit and topic we learn. There is a lot to remember when it comes to graphing quadratics! We graph in vertex form, then factored form then finally standard form after refreshing on how to factor quadratics. Above is the reference sheet we use. It helps my students keep the steps in order, to remember \

Oh no! Where’s my warmup? I know I printed it! Warmups are so important for setting the tone for the next hour or so, but they are also so easy to forget. They can take a long time to make, print and can be hard to track. I wanted to streamline the whole warm-up process with a go-to template that could be printed and used for all sorts of problems. This Algebra 2 template has been a total lifesaver. I use for warm-ups before getting into the day’s mini-lesson or activity. We use the template to review and practice domain, range, zeros, y-intercept, vertex, graphing and for writing equations or all sorts of functions. How I use this quick check template Sometimes I give an equation, other times I give a graph. From there, students fill in the rest of the template’s blanks. I shine the equation or the graph on the smart board from my powerpoint file. Students grab a template from our warm up basket as they walk into class. From there, students also find the vertex, y-intercept, domain, range, zeros and equation (if a graph was given). Here is a photo of the quick check on my smart board after we graphed a quadratic in factored form. I also sometimes use my document camera instead. If my students struggled with inside shifts the day before, I’ll quickly add a new equation to the powerpoint for the next day. If they struggled with writing equations, I’ll add a graph the next day. When everyone is done their warm up, I shine the quick check on the board to review. Other times I collect the quick check to award up to 10 points of classwork credit. I have made a bunch of quick check and warm up templates that are available through the post 4 Free Algebra and Algebra 2 Warm-up Templates. (At the time of writing the post, there were only 4, now there are many. You can find the Algebra 2 quick check template for free here. I recently added this full-page version that can be put inside a page protector and used with dry erase markets to save paper.
