This beautiful quilt is based on an old Biblical quilt pattern called Star of Bethlehem. By careful color placement, the corner blocks look like tulips. The tulip border on the queen is the perfect finish for this stunning quilt. The Rose of Sharon is a tulip looking flower that grows in all kinds of soil, even rocky soil, in Jerusalem. The oil from its flower is used for healing. Many consider the flower to be a symbol for Christ. It’s a thing of beauty and a source of healing even in a hard dry place. It can be made in two sizes, a lap (68 by 68 inches) or queen (94 by 94 inches). The center star fits perfectly on the top of a queen bed. Then the playful tulip border creates a dramatic frame around the sides of your bed. You’ll be surprised at how quickly it comes together. The quilt is made from lots of half square triangles, so some quilting skill is required. It is helpful if you have a large 12 ½ inch ruler to aid in cutting, although a six or five inch wide ruler can be used in conjunction with your cutting matt. This quilt is suggested for an intermediate to skilled quilter, although a confident beginner could make it if he/she can meticulously follow directions. I have included lots of diagrams to make it easy. You’ll love this quilt so much that I’m sure you’ll want to make it more than once.

To create these roses, you’ll need size 11o Japanese seed beads, size 11o cylinder beads, and size 15o Japanese seed beads, plus size 11 or 12 needles and beading thread. I like to use a beading thread that matches my beads, as thread shows slightly on the edges of the petals.
