Quilting
Lovingly hand-pieced using the English paper piecing method. This small-scale hexagon quilt is made from prints in my fabric collection, including shades of soft pink, teal, yellow, blue and green. The center body is made from 100 percent cotton fabrics in multiple mini-prints, and are pieced by hand in a fun, fresh hexi-flower pattern, surrounded by two borders. It is bound in a quilting cotton in a pink and white mini-floral pattern. The backing is pieced from the binding fabric along with a blue and white floral. The piece is machine quilted with parallel lines in the body and wavy lines in the border. This quilt is a lightweight throw size, perfect for summer or whenever you want some fresh summer vibes. It is also super comfy for the sofa or a layering piece for any size bed, porch swing, or anywhere you want a vintage touch. The batting is a lightweight, 100% all natural cotton, grown in the USA. No scrims, glues or binders are used in the processing of this batting and gives the quilt a vintage, crinkly look. Binding is machine stitched and corners reinforced for durability. Quilt is pre-washed and read to be used. Materials: Quilt top and backing – 100 percent cotton fabric Binding – 100% cotton fabric Batting – 100% cotton, processed with no scrims, glues or binders Size: Approximately 49 3/4” x 46 1/2” (throw size) Each hexagon is approximately 1 1/8\

grandmother’s flower garden quilt
As followers may recall, I started hand stitching hexies for a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt in March, 2012… three years ago. Watching my friend, Christy, basting sweet, reproduction fabrics around paper forms, making little stacks of 3/4-inch hexagons, I just couldn’t resist! These Beadlust posts show the various steps to making the quilt top and the start of hand-quilting in more detail than this post. Although I’m still hand-quilting, the end is in sight now. I’m hoping to finish in time for our County Fair in August. In this post, I thought it might interest you to look at how much time it takes to complete each of the steps in hand piecing and quilting a 3/4\
Baby quilts
One of my friends brought this BEAUTY to share at our sewing group yesterday. What a treasure! It was given to her by her mother – can’t remember who made it. I love the idea of surrounding each flower with white and then adding green paths. Even Fritz loves it! (This is his house and he enjoyed every minute of our get together!) I love the way the edges were finished: straight on two sides and zigzagged on the other two. I’ll have to remember this! And here’s a close up of the HAND quilting – yes, all by hand! The interesting this about this quilt is that it has no batting! It is in perfect condition – WOW! I put the last stitches in the April BOM last night. We’re counting down now! Can’t wait to share it in a few days…

I recently fell into the abyss that is Pinterest. I searched “hexagon quilt” and lost an hour looking at all the fabulous pictures of vintage as well as modern quilts using hexagons. …

The Rescue Quilt series is about finishing up quilt tops that were never completed and then remaking the pattern. Sometimes I find easier / modern ways to make the quilt pattern, and sometimes I change up the pattern a bit to freshen things up. Other times I just finish the rescue quilt and end the […]
