So, let me tell you a little more about the two French beading tutorials you are getting here… French Beaded Poppy Pattern: In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to use two different French beading techniques: the horizontal basic and the single strands technique. The French Beaded Poppy pattern offers you a guide to the techniques and then the detailed instructions for creating a poppy. You will need size 11 seed beads in red and black. Plus 0.5mm (24 gauge) wire in red and 0.315mm (28 gauge) wire in black. You will also find it very helpful if you are able to use a bead spinner for threading the beads onto the wire. French Beading Wheat Tutorial I find that all my French beading projects benefit from some ‘filler’ flowers to arrange around the main feature flowers. So, I am always keen to develop patterns for projects that will serve this purpose. So, that is what I had in mind when I created my French beading wheat pattern. It evolved after seeing a field of wheat sprinkled with poppies. The bright red flowers really stood out against the background of wheat. I thought this would make a brilliant arrangement. You are going to be using a very basic French beading technique for this project – the four row crossover. The tricky part when making the ears of wheat is incorporating the single strands of wire that give the wheat its character. You also need to take care as you arrange your rows of crossovers. Make sure that they really resemble an ear of wheat. This project uses size 11 seed beads and 28ga (0.315mm) craft wire in gold. I also recommend gold embroidery thread for covering the stems of your ears of wheat. About French Beading: French Beading is a traditional craft that is thought to date back to Medieval Venice. There are several different techniques for creating individual petals and leaves or whole flowers. I started my beading career by teaching myself French beading. So, this is a very accessible route into beading. It is also a great avenue to try if you are looking for something different. Although this technically classifies as wirework, the techniques you are using will be quite distinct. You don’t need a lot of tools – just a pair of pliers really …Although the bead spinner comes in very handy if you are making a lot of flowers.
