Knitting pattern: instant download PDF. Beanie hat pattern. Cable knit hat pattern. Aran hat pattern. Simple Cable Beanie. Unisex design.
Knitting pattern: instant download pdf. This simple cable beanie is knit in the round, on one size of circular needles. This would be suitable as a first cable project, given that the cabling pattern is not overly complicated. It is a modern take on a traditional Aran motif, creating a hat which combines simplicity and a touch of difference. The hat is sized for an adult, but instructions are given on adjusting the stitch count to create a smaller or larger hat. Gauge is not hugely important for this beanie; the ribbing creates a comfortable fit. I would suggest being guided by the needle size suggested on your Aran wool. Any Aran yarn should be suitable for this pattern, 5 mm needles/US8 are recommended, but there is some leeway given that Aran yarns can vary a little in thickness. I would suggest being guided by the needle size recommended for the Aran yarn you are using. One 100g skein should be just enough for one hat. You might knit this hat from one skein, depending on its yardage. (e.g. the self-striping hats pictured were each knit from one 50g skein of Adriafil Zebrino yarn, but this has a generous yardage of 125m compared to many 50g skeins). I would suggest a requirement of 100 metres/110 yards of yarn. The hat is very forgiving in size, since the ribbing gives it some comfortable stretch; and the length can be adjusted between finishing the cable detail and starting the crown decreases. The hat is seamless, as it is knit in the round, and is super soft and comfortable to wear! It has a lot of stretch since it is ribbed throughout. The beanie measures around 19 inches (48 cm) in circumference (flat, unworn) and 8 1/2 inches (22 cm) from brim to crown (but as I said, it can be adjusted in length as you are knitting). I’m a knitter from the Aran Islands and am delighted to have my own original designs now available here : )

Knitting pattern: Salthill Beanie. I’m delighted to finally have my Salthill beanie knitting pattern available for sale! As a knitter from the Aran Islands, I love adapting the Aran style to suit modern knitters. Here, I have taken a classic Aran style cable lattice pattern and adapted the motif to work it in the round, on two sizes of circular needle. The finished hat is seamless, with the cables flowing from brim to crown without interruption. The Salthill Beanie takes its name from the popular Galway suburb and resort, Salthill. Salthill is famous for its long promenade by the sea, perfect for a soothing or bracing walk – depending on the weather! This hat is the perfect accessory for those colder and windier days. The cabling pattern is not overly complicated, but there is some adjusting of the stitch marker to ensure that the cabling pattern stays seamless throughout. I would consider this a pattern suitable for intermediate knitters. The hat is sized for an adult, but instructions are given on adjusting the stitch count to create a smaller or larger hat. Any Aran yarn should be suitable for this pattern, 5 mm needles/US8 and 5.5mm needles/US9 are recommended, but there is some leeway given that Aran yarns can vary a little in thickness. I would suggest being guided by the needle size recommended for the Aran yarn you are using. One 100g skein should be just enough for one hat. I would suggest a requirement of 140 metres/154 yards of yarn. There is an option to knit a folded brim, in which case a little more yarn could be needed. The hat is sized for an adult, but instructions are given on adjusting the stitch count to create a smaller or larger hat. The beanie measures around 17 inches (43 cm) in circumference (flat, unworn) and 9 inches (23 cm) from brim to crown (but can be adjusted in length by working a deeper brim). The hat is seamless, as it is knit in the round, and is super soft and comfortable to wear! I’m a knitter from the Aran Islands and am delighted to have my own original designs now available here : )
