Crafts- Christmas Felt Ornaments
I am so excited to finally share this Advent Calendar! I started this project 2 years ago and it has been nothing short of a true labor of love. This venture describes me perfectly. I see something I like but there are always a few things I would change or do differently so then I set out to make my own, designing it all myself. That’s exactly how this project began. I sketched out the overall layout and then went step by step, designing each and every detail. A lot of research went into this and I have a board on Pinterest designated to a making a Felt Ornament Advent Calendar if you are interested in making your own. Here are a bunch of pictures of mine! The numbered pockets each hold an ornament and starting December 1st, you take one out and hang it on the tree. My kids adore this activity and it’s so much fun for all of us to see the excitement on their faces when they pull the ornament out for that day. I like to make it extra fun and coordinate the ornament for what we are doing that day if I can. I usually put the Santa ornament on the day that we are taking Santa pictures, the cookie when we do our annual Christmas cookies (no canceling Kel, you’re on the calendar!), and so on and so forth. I spent a lot of time choosing which ornaments I was going to make. Aside from the normal Christmas classics, I wanted ones that pertained to our family and the things that we look forward to around the holidays. I was pregnant at the time that I was working on this last year and we hadn’t decided on a name for Callie. Applying the C onto her stocking this year was a fun moment for me especially since her name was a rather difficult decision. The hot chocolate (the kids are always requesting it!) and the hot pink Christmas light are two of my favorites! Now that we have a little girl, it’s the perfect excuse to incorporate pink into our Christmas festivities. The presents are my favorite. I hand stitched all of the numbers to each pocket. For all of the hand-stitching, I applied a piece of utility fabric to the back of it to give the felt more support. I drew the number on the back side of the utility fabric (backwards) as a guide and so that you wouldn’t see it from the front. I used a larger needle and cotton cross stitch thread. I attached each pocket to the large white fabric using a simple straight stitch with my sewing machine. I love how all of the little hooks poke out of the tops of the pockets. I am so proud of this calendar! I feel like I completed it just in time for the kids to be at great ages to really enjoy this. My vision with this is to hopefully be able to pass it on to you one my kids one day to share with their own. Leave me a comment below, I would love to hear your feedback on this!
