THIS LISTING IS FOR THE PATTERN FOR THE KNIT NEWFOUNDLAND SALT \u0026 PEPPER CAP AND NOT A FINISHED ITEM. This pattern, and all my patterns, are written in standard Canadian/US terms. This pattern has instructions for Baby/Toddler, Child/Youth, and Teen/Adult sizes only, and is worked in the round. The peak of the hat is worked separately, knitted flat and joined to the cap afterwards. This style of hat has been around for ages and is known by many names besides the Newfoundland Salt \u0026 Pepper Cap… Irish Scally Hat, Flat Cap, Driver/Cabbie, Driving Cap, Newsboy Cap, Dai Cap, Golf Cap, etc. It’s also call a tweed cap, because it’s mostly made with a salt \u0026 pepper colored tweed yarn… hence the name. Whatever you call it, it’s sure to be noticed by everyone… with their own special name for it. Many of you can probably remember your dads or grandfathers wearing one of these hats. I know my grandfather never left the house without his. This hat is becoming quite popular again by the younger generation… male and female!
