Lovely! This traditionally patterned Shetland Lace shawl has been given a modern twist by its being able to be knitted in the round Outwards from Centre. Zoom on the above pages which give necessary information. This has been one of my prize winning patterns so enjoy! Ideal for one of the Gossamer yarns see image 4. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— TECHNICAL ADVICE for all our pdfs – put here just in case, these pages are great and haven’t let us down – (we’re all newish at this too): YOU DO NOT NEED A DROPBOX ACCOUNT- just look for the ‘ … ‘ symbol on the right, click that, and select ‘download’ in the usual way. Check you can save the preview pdf to your computer and that then you can print from it – the full version is exactly in the same format. DON’T TRY TO PRINT FROM UNSAVED version – that, we’ve found, can lead to conflicts if you haven’t got up-to date editions of software for your computer, tablet, techy whatever. This exquisitely beautiful Shetland lace shawl is most likely to be it was valued for costliness and rarity – this is probably why it has survived. I
am now very pleased to give this pattern, with alternatives, to make an ideal heirloom shawl. Made as directed, it will be so fine it will be a true Ring Shawl so called, in that it will slide lengthwise through a wedding band – see photos. With a little care and proper attention as explained here, this shawl will last several generations, and should truly become a treasured and loved heirloom. This has been a favourite pattern for moderately skilled lace knitters. Suitable to be made in Shetland Supreme 1 Ply (300g) or HK’s Cashsilk, (150g) Gossamer Merino (200g) Gossamer Cashmere (125g) or Ethereal Cashsilk (100g). ————————————————————————————— TECHNICAL ADVICE for all our pdfs – put here just in case, these pages are great and haven’t let us down – (we’re all newish at this too): YOU DO NOT NEED A DROPBOX ACCOUNT- just look for the ‘ … ‘ symbol on the right, click that, and select ‘download’ in the usual way. Blyde On Shetland there are some 20 – 22 dialects. That is quite a lot for this group of islands. On the larger islands they each have their own dialect. On the Mainland 11 different dialects can be distinguished. In Friesland, where I live, they speak a recognized language. But some words in that language are very much like words in other languages and dialects. Bliid is the Frisian word for ‘Happy” (pronounce it as bleed). In Shetland the word for Glad / Happy is Blyde (same sound as in Hide). Knitting Shetland Lace is what makes me very happy / glad.
