Back in September, I guest posted for Tasha over I Seam Stressed, while she was adjusting to her new life as mom of two. For that post, I’ve put up a tutorial on how to do your own pocket sling. Today’s, I am bringing it home, since all we think about now is Christmas and all the handmade presents we have to make, i think this should be a good idea to gift a new mom or a pregnant relative/friend in your life. Enjoy! Since my appearence here is due to Tasha’s baby boy’s birth, I thought I’d come up with something every mom should have. Especially when they are still newborns (even though I used mine until my little one was around one year old, then she just wanted to walk everywhere and we slowly left it aside). I am talking about a baby pocket sling, of course. I prefer pocket slings over ring slings by far, it gives me a better sense of security, but that might be just me. And today I will share a tutorial on how to do your own. So, the first thing you have to do is take your measurements! – a bad thing about the pocket sling is that it will only fit you, in my case I had to make one for me and one for hubby, since he’s much bigger than I am. To take the measurements correctly, you should use a sewing tape, place the edge on your shoulder’s bone (the highest on your shoulder, it is), and cross the tape from your shoulder to the opposite hip bone. Ring Sling Pattern
Sew a baby sling with this ring sling pattern! A ring sling is a baby carrier that is very adjustable. The ring sling is the best sling for nursing in and is what midwives globally recommend the most. A ring sling is different then other types of baby carriers and is well known for the double ‘rings’ at the shoulder area. These rings adjust the sling to be fitted to the wearer. There is a ‘tail’ that usually has a pocket in it and is an excellent conceiler for extra nursing privacy. The ring sling does take a bit more getting used to than the pouch sling or mei tai, but it’s worth it if you are out and about during feeding time. This is a 2020 patternWith the Baby Doll Care patterns you can create these clothes and care items for 43cm tall dolls: Kimono Top, reversible Pants, long and 3/4 length Booties Training Pants Headband Sling Carrier Diaper Bag Changing Mat Wipe Box \u0026 Wipes Bottle Bag Teething Ring This is a 2020 pattern and seam allowance is included in the pattern pieces. Further there is a detailed sewing description with photos of all the different sewing steps. When you purchase the pattern you can pick your download version, A4 or Letter size. The pattern consists of 34 ready-to-cut paper pieces that will allow you to sew all the items mentioned. All pattern pieces are full size and the pieces do not overlap. There is one piece, the actual sling, that you will need to cut to size. It’s too large to fit on the paper. All clothes are easy to sew. The kimono top is reversible and so there are some more advanced sewing techniques, mostly how exactly all the steps fit together, but the actual sewing steps are easy. The booties are tiny and that presents some precise work but still very doable. I used 100% cotton Fat Quarters for all items. The dolls in the photos are my personal Zapf Creations BABY Born ® dolls, 43cm.
