A rectangle shawl in two sizes featuring multiple stitch patterns. The rectangle is knitted from center back to hem; the side edges are self-trimmed. Knitting pattern is written for two sizes, petite (tall).  The triangle and the rectangle versions share the same motifs and sequencing of stitch patterns, so you really do get all the deliciousness in whichever package you prefer. Both pieces are knit with lightweight lace yarn, the kind that has about 800 yards per 4-oz skein. The yellow-gold sample is shown here in laceweight merino by Wooly Wonka Fibers in the shade Buckwheat. The black sample is shown here in JaggerSpun Zephyr Merino/Silk in the shade Black. Suggested Yarns:  Fresh Lace, Kent Lace, Cormo Lace, Yak + Silk, Shetlandia Fingering, Jacob Fingering, or any laceweight yarn having 160 to 210 yards per ounce.   Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size, drape, and yardage requirement. Finished Size:  blocked dimensions: 72(84)” long and 21(24)“ wide  Yarn Requirements: 1100(1400) yds of laceweight yarn  Gauge: unblocked: 26 sts and 36 rows = 4” in stockinette  Needles: size US 5 (3.75mm) 24” circular designed for lace

This shawl was knitted as a personal piece for family, and so this pattern is pulled together from my notes and photos taken over the two years that I worked on it off and on. The shawl is knitted in one piece starting with a centre square knit corner to corner. Stitches are picked up around this square and the border is knit in a circular fashion, and finally the lace edging is knit around and onto the border. The traditional lace patterns are knit on a garter stitch ground, which means that in the border section some lace stitches are knitted purl-wise. Most of the motifs are lace every other row, however some are lace every row. As this pattern is being written as an afterthought, and because of the nature of the knitting as described above, I would say this shawl is for the experienced lace knitter. I have not provided row by row written instructions for the charts. The blocked and relaxed piece as knitted measured approximately 106cm square, but the final size will vary according to your own choice of yarn and needle, as well as your own knitting tension. Requirements 2.5mm US1.5 knitting needles, or your preferred sizes for knitting your laceweight yarn. 100g 1200m/1312 yds of laceweight yarn. I had 3g left over. Stitch markers – both split ring and regular including 1 unique one to mark start of
round. Others as required to mark repeats in the lace. Wool needle to sew in ends. Blocking wires and pins.

The Rosebud Shawl is a feminine versionof The Cameron, an antique Fancy Hap design made in the modern manner from the knitted centre square outwards. Like that shawl, this is a lovely project for the moderately experienced knitter. Check you can save the preview pdf to your computer and that then you can print from it – the full version is exactly in the same format. DON’T TRY TO PRINT FROM UNSAVED version – that, we’ve found, can lead to conflicts if you haven’t got up-to date editions of software for your computer, tablet, techy whatever. You will need a free up-to-date Adobe Acrobat Reader e.g. https://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/otherversions/ and follow download directions.
