Interference Pattern Light

The m = -5 maximum is not seen here as it coincides with the n = -1 minimum. The resulting patterns on the screen, a product of interference between the two diffracted beams of laser light, are often referred to as interference fringes. I've always found interference effects in light highly entertaining, but it also seemed disappointing that obvious visual effects due to interference are so rare. Pass laser light through two slits to produce an interference pattern on a distant screen. Light ofwavelength 550 illuminates the slits,causing an interference pattern on a screen 1.0 away. Interference patterns are only observed if the interfering light from the various sources is coherent, i.e. if the phase difference between the sources is constant. Thomas Young showed that an interference pattern results when light from two sources meets up while traveling through the same medium.
